Death

Zero Wounds

When a character's Wounds drop to zero, they fall unconscious (See unconscious condition), balanced precariously on the edge of life. Without timely medical attention or intervention, the character will remain in this unconscious state. During this time, they are unable to participate in any action or activity, essentially being out of commission until they regain consciousness.

Dying

Is a state of severe vulnerability where the character's life hangs in the balance. When a character's Wounds fall below zero into negative values, they enter the Dying condition. This means their condition is deteriorating rapidly, and they are slipping away towards death.

In the Dying condition, the character will continue to lose one Wound per minute without immediate medical intervention, as their body struggles to survive. It's essential to note that if the character is afflicted with another Condition causing continual Wound damage, such as Bleeding, the damage is still incurred every Turn as usual. In such cases, receiving prompt and appropriate medical care becomes even more critical, as the combined impact of the Dying condition and the damaging Condition can quickly escalate the character's death.

Stabilising a Dying Character

Before any healing can be administered to a dying character, they must first be stabilised. A single dose from a Botshot or receiving aid from someone with a successful Medicine skill check using RMK will stabilise a character. This stops any further loss of Wounds and removes the Dying Condition. Any other conditions such as Bleeding must also be treated individually or the character could suffer from the Dying condition again.

Once stabilised and healed back to at least 1 Wound, the character takes Strain equivalent to the total negative Wounds they've suffered.

Dead

The tragic end of a character's journey, when a character's Wound count descends into negative values equal to their Physique Trait, their physical form can no longer sustain life, and the character unfortunately perishes.

It isn't necessarily the absolute end for a character. If a sufficient amount of the deceased character's physical remains can be collected and preserved, they can be brought back to life using advanced biotechnological procedures available at an Organic Repair Bay (ORB).
